How to Connect Your Platform to a Prop Firm
Step by step for NinjaTrader, Tradovate, and TradingView
Mandatory Step: Sign Contracts
Every time you connect a new prop firm, you'll need to sign market data contracts. This is a legal requirement from the exchanges (CME). Without this, you won't be able to see real-time prices.
Which platform will you use to trade?
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I see market data on my platform?
In 90% of cases it's because you haven't signed the mandatory agreements. If you use Tradovate/TradingView, go to trader.tradovate.com and sign the Market Data Agreement and the Non-Professional Subscriber Agreement. If you use Rithmic, download R|Trader Pro, log in with your credentials, and accept the agreements.
Do I need to sign agreements with each new prop firm?
Yes. Each prop firm gives you new credentials and you must sign the market data agreements with each one. It doesn't matter if you already signed with another firm - each account is independent.
What's the difference between NinjaTrader with Tradovate vs Rithmic?
With Tradovate: simpler, sign agreements once in Tradovate and it works. With Rithmic: requires R|Trader Pro to sign agreements, but more prop firms use Rithmic (Apex, Bulenox, etc.). Choose based on the data feed your prop firm uses.
Is NinjaTrader free?
Yes, the basic version is free and sufficient for trading with prop firms. You only pay if you want premium analysis features.
How long does it take to activate my account?
Usually minutes, 24 hours maximum. If it takes longer, contact your prop firm's support.
Can I use NinjaTrader on Mac?
NinjaTrader requires Windows. On Mac you can use Tradovate (web) or a virtual machine with Windows.
Which server should I use: Paper Trading or Rithmic 01?
Paper Trading for evaluations (Challenge). Rithmic 01 only when your account is funded and the firm expressly tells you to.
